November 29, 2012
By: Jamie Matusow
Editor-in-Chief
William P. Lauder, executive chairman, and Fabrizio Freda, CEO, The Estee Lauder Companies, today announced further changes to the company’s “strategic organizational redesign.” Jane Lauder and Peter Lichtenthal’s (shown in photo, L-R) roles will be expanded to include additional responsibilities, effective January 1st, 2013. Jane Lauder, global president and general manager, Origins and Ojon, will now add Darphin to her brand leadership responsibilities. “Jane is intelligent, focused, tenacious and determined to lead her teams to success. She has done a brilliant job with her brands, especially with Origins around the world. We are proud she will take on this new responsibility,” said Lynne Greene. Lauder will continue to report to Greene. In addition to his duties as president of Bumble and Bumble, Peter Lichtenthal will now also oversee Smashbox, where he will drive integration, further linking the brand with the Company’s global marketing and commercial capabilities. “Peter Lichtenthal has over 20 years’ brand-building experience with The Estee Lauder Companies. His recent direction of Bumble and bumble has taken the brand to new horizons in fashion, innovation and specialty retailing. Peter will be an excellent addition to the Smashbox leadership team, advancing the strategic development of this growing brand,” said John Demsey, group president, Estee Lauder, MAC, Tom Ford Beauty, Prescriptives, Bobbi Brown, La Mer, Jo Malone and Smashbox. Demsey will add Bumble and bumble to his responsibilities on January 1, 2013, and Lichtenthal will report to him. Freda said: “We are a dynamic organization, evolving as the skills of our Company grow. Jane and Peter are exceptional global brand leaders who consistently maximize opportunities across regions and channels to deliver outstanding results. The additional responsibilities we are announcing for our leaders celebrate their strengths and, at the same time, provide them growth opportunities that make our business exciting.” Of the continued organizational evolution, William Lauder stated, “We have always said that our greatest asset is our people. Both Jane and Peter possess the outstanding strengths and leadership skills that define us as a brand-led, strategic organization that is creativity-driven and consumer-inspired. We benefit from the growth of our leaders as we grow our Company and our exceptional brands globally, leveraging the strengths and synergies that drive our success.”
